Accra, Jan 3, GNA – Some 25 mothers who were detained over their non-payment of medical bills after they had given birth at the LEKMA Hospital have been released after Mr Benjamin Ayiku Narteh, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ledzokuku Constituency cleared the bills.

Mr Ayiku, who was accompanied by the Municipal Health Director, some Constituency Executives of National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the Assembly Member for the Aborlebu Electoral Area, said the gesture was to relieve the burden on the detained mothers and also help reunite them with their families.

“The new year is here, and it is just right that these women celebrate it with the families at home,” he said.

The mothers who expressed their appreciation for the MP’s kind gesture, said he had relieved them of the stress and anxiety over what they called the “burden of medical bills” during what should be a joyous and occasion in their lives.

“The MP’s commitment to alleviating the plight of vulnerable members within the constituency is worth celebrating,” said one of the young mothers cradling her infant close to her heart.
