Aflao (VR), June 18, GNA – Tipper Truck Owners and Drivers Association, Ketu South, is rehabilitating the poorest portion of the over four-kilometre Komla Dumor-Agblekpui-Anoenu Road at Aflao.
The stretch, which leads to the Agblekpui residence of Torgbui Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V, Paramount Chief of Aflao Traditional Area, is being fixed to make the road more motorable as a host of dignitaries are expected to throng Torgbui’s residency Saturday, June 18 for his 25th anniversary celebration as Paramount Chief of Aflao.
The day will also see the launch of the Godigbeza, an annual festival of the Aflao Traditional Area which will be celebrated later in the year.
When the Ghana News Agency’s (GNA) visited to the stretch of road on Saturday morning, it found an excavator on the road and potholes being filled.
Mr Epiphany Klutsey, Chairman of the Association, speaking to the GNA said they started the “emergency” work on the road to give it a facelift considering the fact that a lot of people would be using the road, “which is in an awfully bad state” to Torgbui Fiti’s residency for his anniversary.
“We cleared all the waste from the road because as you’re aware, residents dump refuse on the road as their way of filling the potholes.
“We also cleared the mud from the road and filled the stretch with sand.
“We used about 10 trips of sand yesterday. This morning we used four, but we’ll still be using more because we have to fill the potholes on the road at least to Torgbui’s residency. We’ve also realised that the road requires laterite but we’re unable to get that this morning but we’re working towards it,” Mr Klutsey said.
Mr Parlous Quarshie, a member of the association, said they had to organise themselves and start work on the road immediately after visiting the road (following calls on them for support) and realising its poor state, which did not speak well of Aflao.
He called on other Ketu South citizens to support development projects in the Municipality in their own small way saying, “one must not necessarily be rich to be able to give back to his/her society” as waiting on government to solve their development needs would also not help.
Mr Quarshie appealed to motorcyclists and other users of the road to be careful to avoid carnage on the road during Torgbui Fiti’s 25th Anniversary celebration.
