Nkwanta (O/R), Feb 24, GNA-Mr Bright Kwame Lenwah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Nkwanta South in the Oti Region has paid a working visit to the Nkwanta main market to familiarise with challenges confronting the facility for urgent action.
The MCE and his team visited the Keri station, the yam market, the main lorry station and the heartbeat of the main market.
The team also visited the Kpassa station to observe if those selling on the pavements are complying with the directive to vacate the place to create free flow of traffic for pedestrians.
Speaking to the media after his visit, Mr Lenwah said he had identified some challenges at the market particularly inadequate waste bins and added that the market should have an entry and exit gates with security post.
Nana Appiah, Secretary of the Nkwanta Traders Association expressed his happiness seeing the MCE and team touring.
He recounted how motorcycles were causing damage to some traders’ structures in the market.
The MCE also urged the traders to always keep the market clean after observing how some parts of the market were being used for waste disposal.
He also bemoaned the abuse of regulations on the part of some traders and motor riders leading to undue traffic at the market.
After the tour, Mr Lenwah promised to expedite action on processes to curb some of the challenges at the market as soon as possible.
He also promised to boost security arrangements in the market just as the government of Ghana was focusing on ensuring full security in the country.
The MCE was accompanied by the Municipal Coordinating Director, the Development Planning Officer, his Deputy and the head of works department.
