Tamale, May 01, GNA –The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has presented packs of bottled water to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) to support its efforts at containing the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
The bottled water christened ‘G-Water’ is a product of the GWCL.
Engineer Amidu Musah, Northern Regional Director of GWCL, on behalf of the Managing Director of GWCL, through the Northern Regional Minister and the Northern Regional Director of Health, handed over the product to the Acting Chief Executive Officer of TTH in Tamale.
Engineer Musah said the gesture was the GWCL’s way of showing appreciation to the TTH for its relentless efforts to provide quality health care for COVID-19 patients in the country.
So far, the Northern Region had 13 cases of COVID-19 out of which six had recovered and one absconded.
Additionally, nine other COVID-19 patients from the Oti Region have been receiving treatment in the Northern Region.
All the COVID-19 patients in the Region have been receiving treatment at the TTH, and or are under the care of medical officers.
Mr Salifu Saeed, Northern Regional Minister, commended staff of the hospital for their dedication to duty, especially in this critical time of COVID-19 pandemic, assuring them of government’s continued support to address their challenges.
Dr John Eleeza, Northern Regional Director of Health, on behalf of TTH, gave assurance of the commitment of health workers to continue to do their best to ensure that the country won the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Regional Minister, later visited the Public Health Reference Laboratory located on the premises of the TTH, to acquaint himself with the operations of the facility.
The Laboratory, from Wednesday, April 29, began testing COVID-19 samples collected from the northern part of the country.
It can test 288 samples in a day.
Dr Abass Abdul Karim, Head of the Laboratory, who led the Regional Minister round the facility, said staff members were poised to do their best to contribute to national efforts at containing the disease in the country.
Mr Saeed expressed the government’s appreciation to the staff at the Laboratory for their support for the fight against COVID-19 and assured them that the logistical challenges including poor air-conditioning systems at the Laboratory would be fixed.
