Ashaiman MCE ensures total compliance with lockdown regulations

Ashaiman, April 1, GNA – Mr. Albert Boakye Okyere, Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive, on Tuesday stormed the Ashaiman Main Market to ensure that traders complied with the social distancing protocols against COVID-19.

The MCE, together with officers from the Assembly on day two of the partial lockdown, arrested and detained persons who were found to have disregarded the presidential directives in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr.Okyere noted that, most of the traders selling in the main market were not observing the social distancing protocol.

He added that it was the duty of the Assembly to ensure the traders adhered to the laid down protocols.

‘We ensured that they complied with the rules yesterday but today seems to be different, “he said.

The traders who spoke to the GNA stated that, the situation went bad when those selling on the street were ejected.

According to them, their colleague traders had joined them in the market hence the reason for the breakdown of the social distancing protocol in the main market.

The GNA observed that most streets within the Ashaiman Municipality were deserted due to the lockdown whilst many others were in the main market going about their daily transactions including children of school going age, who were later asked by the MCE to vacate the market square.
