Accra, March 31, GNA – Security officers deployed to ensure the 14-day restrictions on movement to curb the spread of COVID-19 are strictly adhering to the task and turning away travelers who have no genuine reasons to be in the central business district.
The Ghana News Agency observed during routine checks in some parts of Accra, that travelers who have no legitimate reasons for going out were made to go back home whiles some vehicles were also turned away.
Passengers on some commercial vehicles were asked to alight while the cars were ordered to go back to wherever they came from.
However, some of the drivers were using alternative routes to avoid the road blocks mounted by security personnel.
A driver, who was commuting from the Spintex Road to the Central Business Centre of Accra, and had suffered at the hands of a number of security personnel in spite of the different routes he took, then had to coach his passengers as to what to say at the next barrier.
“You have to tell them we are from the 37 Military Hospital Area to the Tema Station for food items,” he told them when approaching another barrier.
Two of the passengers at the next check point when randomly asked told their stories and since their responses were similar, the car was allowed to move.
Later when they were almost at their destination, they met military personnel at the last check point and in a stern warning, one of the officers with a baritone voice without listening to them like the others said “Please, when you get to the station, park the car”.
That was enough to send chills down the spine of the driver, who said he has ended his business for the day.
