Syrian arrested in Lebanon over possession of 40kg suspected cocaine

Accra, Nov. 2, GNA – The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has confirmed the arrest of a Syrian national at the Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon, on Saturday, October 31, 2026, after arriving from Accra, Ghana.

The suspect was arrested for possessing approximately 40 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine concealed in two pieces of luggage.

A statement signed by Mr Francis Opoku Amoah, Acting Director of Public Affairs of NACOC, and shared with the Ghana News Agency on Sunday said efforts were underway to arrest his accomplices in Ghana.

It said the arrest resulted from a coordinated operation between Ghanaian and Lebanese drug law enforcement authorities.

“The joint operation aimed to identify and apprehend targets at both ends of the supply chain while gathering vital intelligence to dismantle the broader transnational criminal syndicate behind the shipment,” the statement said.

NACOC reaffirmed its commitment to working with international partners to disrupt drug trafficking networks through cross-border intelligence-sharing.

The Commission said it would prevent Ghana from being used as a safe haven, transit point or operational base by international drug trafficking organisations.
