Sunyani (Bono), Nov. 05, GNA – The Out-Patient Department (OPD) attendance at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital (STH) has recorded a significant increase since the facility was upgraded to a teaching hospital, Dr Cardinal Kofi Newton, Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital, has said.

He said before the facility was elevated from a regional hospital to a teaching hospital in 2023, monthly OPD attendance averaged about 90,000 cases. However, the figure had now risen to approximately 120,000 cases.

Dr Newton said the Hospital served as a major referral facility for the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions and also received referrals from neighbouring countries, including Côte d’Ivoire.

He disclosed this in an interview with the media when Suncity Club United Kingdom (Suncity Club UK) presented reception furniture to the Hospital in Sunyani.

Membership of the Club comprises indigenes of Sunyani and other persons who attended school in the municipality but are currently resident in the United Kingdom.

The furniture, valued at GH¢25,000, comprised 20 pieces of three-seater steel reception chairs.

Dr Newton said public trust and confidence in the facility had improved, partly due to the cordial relationship between health workers and clients.

He said the provision of quality healthcare services and excellent client care remained the hallmark of the Hospital and appealed for additional support from individuals and organisations.

Mr Solomon Boateng, President of Suncity Club UK, commended the Hospital’s management and staff for their professionalism and dedication to healthcare delivery.

He said that beyond promoting the general wellbeing of its members, the Club remained committed to giving back to society through community support initiatives.

Mr Boateng urged the Hospital authorities to ensure proper maintenance of the furniture and its use for the intended purpose of serving patients and visitors.

Mr Ranford Antwi, Chief Executive Officer of the Sunyani-based Suncity Group of Companies, also commended the Club for the donation.

He expressed the hope that other affluent natives of Sunyani, both at home and abroad, would emulate the gesture and contribute towards enhancing the status and service delivery of the Teaching Hospital.
