Tamale, Nov. 03, GNA – Plan International Ghana has appointed Madam Muniratu Issifu as its new Country Director effective October 01, 2026.
She brings on board more than 25 years of experience in development programming, organisational leadership, and advocacy for children’s rights.
Her appointment is expected to strengthen the organisation’s efforts to advance children’s rights, promote equality for girls, and deepen partnerships towards addressing challenges affecting vulnerable children and young people across the country.
This was contained in a statement issued by Plan International Ghana and copied to the press.
The statement said Madam Issifu joined the Ghana office from Plan International Sierra Leone where she served as Country Director for three years providing strategic leadership and overseeing the implementation of programmes aimed at improving the lives of children and communities.
It said during her tenure in Sierra Leone, she led the development and implementation of a new five-year Country Strategy while strengthening programme quality and improving the organisation’s overall impact.
It said, “She also played a key role in navigating a challenging funding environment by strengthening strategic partnerships with donors, government ministries, departments and agencies to sustain programme delivery.”
The statement said her leadership contributed to strengthening organisational capacity, improving workforce stability, and creating better working conditions and an improved organisational culture.
It said prior to her appointment in Sierra Leone, Madam Issifu held several senior leadership positions in Ghana’s development sector including Country Director of the Varkey Foundation, Programmes Director of CAMFED Ghana and Director of Partnerships at Plan International Ghana.
It said throughout her career, she provided leadership in the design and implementation of large-scale development programmes covering girls’ education, technology-driven interventions, teacher professional development, good governance, and national disaster responses particularly within the education sector.
It said, “Her return to Plan International Ghana is expected to bring renewed strategic direction, drawing on her familiarity with the country’s development landscape, established institutional relationships and international experience within the organisation.”
The statement said Madam Issifu expressed excitement about returning to the organisation, describing it as an important part of her professional journey.
It said “I am honoured to return to Plan International Ghana as Country Director. Having begun a significant chapter of my journey here, I bring a deep understanding of the Ghanaian context, long-standing local relationships, and fresh perspectives gained from leading another country programme within Plan International.”
