Accra, Nov. 2, GNA – Some courts in the Greater Accra Region remained closed on Monday following the commencement of an indefinite strike by the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG).
At the Law Court Complex, all gates to about 42 High Courts were closed, with red pieces of cloth tied to them.
The court compound was deserted, with only security personnel stationed at the various gates.
Some litigants were seen seeking information from the security personnel.
Mr Gideon Larbi, a client, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that he had a civil case before one of the High Courts but was unable to enter the premises because of the strike.
Madam Caroline Darko, who had a pending case, qawwsaid she had heard about the strike in the media but decided to visit the court to ascertain the situation for herself.
She said a security officer informed her that no court was sitting and advised her to return home.
The usually busy court complex had only a few vehicles parked on its premises.
At the Supreme Court, only security personnel were seen on duty, while a similar situation prevailed at the Circuit Courts in the Central Business District.
At the Adabraka District Court, a security officer was also seen on duty with the whole premises deserted.
JUSAG declared an indefinite nationwide strike on October 30, 2026, beginning November 2, over the Government’s failure to approve and pay reviewed salaries and allowances for its members.
