Wa, (UW/R), Nov. 04, GNA – The Ministry of the Interior has imposed an 11-hour curfew on Hamile Township and its environs in the Lambussie District following a reported clash between security personnel and civilians in Hamile.

A statement issued by the Ministry on Tuesday on its official Facebook handle indicated that the curfew, which took immediate effect, ran from 1800 hours to 0500 hours daily.

The statement said the Minister imposed the curfew based on the advice of the National Security Council and, by Executive Instrument, to restore peace and security in the area.

It called on chiefs, opinion leaders, the youth and residents to exercise restraint and adopt peaceful approaches in addressing their grievances.

“Government urges Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Youth and People of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their grievances into ensuring peace in the area”, the statement said.

The Ministry also announced a total ban on the possession of firearms, ammunition and other offensive weapons within Hamile Township and its environs.

“Any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted”, the statement cautioned.

The Ministry urged the residents of the area to cooperate with the security agencies and adhere to the restrictions to help maintain law and order in the area.

Unconfirmed information available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Wa indicated that the friction between the security agency and the civilians arose from an explosion on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Hamile, which claimed three lives and left one in a critical condition.

The information had it that at about 6000 hours on Tuesday, two immigration officers on a patrol along the Hamile border spotted two civilians on a tricycle on an unapproved route towards Burkina Faso.

The immigration officers signalled the rider of the tricycle to stop, but he did not and attempted to speed off when the items in the tricycle exploded, killing the two occupants of the tricycle and one Immigration officer.

The second Immigration officer was also wounded by the explosion and was in a critical condition at St. Theresa’s Hospital in Nandom.

The GNA also gathered that some youth in Hamile mobilised to attack the Hamile Immigration post, which resulted in gunshots, leaving an unconfirmed number of people injured and rushed to St. Theresa’s Hospital for treatment.
