Accra, Nov. 05, GNA- Demeter Ghana Limited has donated agricultural inputs and GH¢20,000 to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in support of the 42nd National Farmers’ Day celebration.
The donation comprises 500 bags of 50-kilogramme Asaase Hemaa calcium carbonate liming product and 20 boxes of Omex Starter Pro liquid fertiliser, valued at more than GH¢200,000.
Mr William Hunt, the Country Manager of Demeter Ghana Limited, said the donation was part of the company’s support for farmers and efforts to promote sustainable agricultural production.
He said the company, one of the major importers and distributors of fertilisers and seeds in Ghana and West Africa, was committed to helping farmers improve productivity and profitability.
Mr Hunt said the company was also introducing a campaign to raise awareness about soil acidity and the importance of liming in improving soil conditions.
He explained that soil acidity could affect crop growth and reduce the effectiveness of agricultural inputs, making soil testing and farmer education important.
He said Asaase Hemaa, a calcium carbonate product, helped address soil acidity where testing established the need, while Omex Starter Pro supported crop nutrition.
Mr John Dumelo, the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture and Chairman of the National Farmers’ Day Planning Committee, who received the items on behalf of the Ministry, expressed appreciation to the company.
He said the donations would be given to deserving farmers as rewards for their contributions to agricultural production.
Mr Dumelo said preparations for the celebration were progressing well and expressed optimism that this year’s event would be “bigger and better” than the previous edition.
He encouraged the public and corporate organisations to continue supporting the celebration.
The 42nd National Farmers’ Day celebration will take place on December 4, 2026, in Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital, under the theme, “Our Farmers, Our Food, Our Future.”
The celebration, which is observed annually to recognise and reward outstanding farmers and other players in the agricultural sector, will be preceded by a five-day National Agricultural Fair from November 30 to December 4, 2026.
The fair will provide a platform for stakeholders to showcase agricultural products, technologies and innovations.
