Tamale, Nov. 6, GNA – The Centre for Active Learning and Integrated Development (CALID) has trained 48 visually impaired women and their caregivers in soap making to equip them with entrepreneurial skills, promote self-reliance and improve their economic independence.

The three-day training, organised in collaboration with the Ghana Blind Union (GBU), focused on building the participants’ capacity to produce and market soap products as a means of creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.

The participants were taken through practical sessions on producing different types of soap, particularly liquid soap, to equip them with the skills to establish and manage their own small-scale businesses.

Mr Mohammed Awal Sumani Bapio, Executive Director of CALID, said during the training that the initiative was aimed at helping the beneficiaries become self-reliant.

He encouraged the participants to put the knowledge and skills acquired into practice, saying the training offered them an opportunity to venture into self-employment and generate income.

Mr Imoro Mohammed, President of the GBU, expressed appreciation to CALID for the support and appealed to other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to extend similar interventions to Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) to improve their economic and social wellbeing.

Miss Aisha Abukari, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to CALID for the opportunity to acquire practical skills that would help improve their livelihoods.

She said the training had equipped them with valuable knowledge and appealed to members of the public to patronise their products to support their efforts towards improved livelihoods.
