Fiapre, (Bono) Nov. 6, GNA-The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) says it anticipates the 2027 budget statement announcing the injection of $2 billion into sectors of the economy, as promised by President John Dramani Mahama.
Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister of Finance is expected to present the 2027 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on Thursday November 12, 2026.
According to Dr Kofi Nsiah Poku, “President Mahama said for the next five years he is going to introduce $2 billion dollars every year and if this happens, it will go a long way to support those sectors like the pharmaceutical, agriculture and agri-business which I belong”.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Dr Poku added that the AGI had extensively engaged the 24-hour economy secretariat and the ministry of finance to accelerate approvals for the 24-hour economy incentives for industries.
“In fact, we anticipate that on November 12, the ministry of finance will announce the $2 billion dollar support so that industries will gear up and immediately go into expansion as soon as the budget is announced”, he stated.
Dr Poku spoke to the GNA on the sidelines of the opening session of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional branch of the AGI, at Fiapre, near Sunyani.
The event was on the theme: “Promoting unity and stronger partnership to accelerate business growth in the Bono regions”.
Additionally, Dr Poku said the AGI has also positioned itself to hear the budget announcing the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank (WDB) for women in small-scale and micro-businesses to easily access financial support.
President Mahama promised the establishment of the WDB, a flagship initiative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) aimed at eliminating financing barriers for women entrepreneurs, traders, and small businesses in the 2024 electioneering.
“We also expect that the budget announces the establishment of the WDB” Dr Poku stated, explaining that the association was presently training women entrepreneurs and to empower them to access credit facilities from the bank.
Dr Poku commended the government for stabilizing the economy, saying that the fall in inflation, with interest rate hovering around 10 percent, were good indicators of good government.
He said the government had creditably created a favourable environment for the private sector to thrive, adding that interest rate now was not as expensive as it used to be.
He said with the decline of the interest rate, small and medium scale enterprises could now access credit facilities and to expand their economic activities for job creation and poverty reduction.
Earlier, in a welcoming address, Mr Samuel Kwame Ntim-Adu, the Chairman of the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional branch of the AGI commended the members for the loyalty assuring that the branch would work hard for its impact to be felt in the three regions.
