Accra, Oct. 21, GNA – The Young Christian Workers Movement (YCWM) of Christ the King Catholic Church has expanded its annual blood donation campaign to include health screening services to promote preventive healthcare and strengthen support for patients in need of blood.

A statement issued to the Ghana News Agency said the exercise, held at the forecourt of the church in Accra, featured voluntary blood donation organised by the National Blood Bank of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), alongside eye and dental screenings, prostate screening and lipid profile testing.

It added that the initiative brought together healthcare professionals and voluntary donors to support the national blood supply while encouraging participants to take a proactive approach to their health.

Ms Emma Dei, a Senior Blood Donor Organiser at the KBTH, expressed satisfaction with the exercise and urged the public to make voluntary blood donation a regular practice.

She stressed the need to maintain adequate blood stocks at the national blood bank to ensure that patients, particularly those requiring emergency treatment and other critical medical care, had access to blood when needed.

Ms Dei encouraged eligible members of the public to embrace voluntary blood donations as a practical way of saving lives and strengthening the country’s blood supply.

Ms Lucy Dzata, President of the YCWM, reaffirmed the movement’s commitment to the annual initiative, which has been organised for more than 15 years.

“The campaign reflected the movement’s dedication to community service and its support for healthcare delivery through voluntary action and collaboration with medical institutions,” she stressed.

Ms Dzata said the inclusion of various health screening services this year had broadened the impact of the exercise by allowing participants to attend to their health needs while contributing to a lifesaving cause.

Rev. Fr. Ebenezer Akesse, the Parish Priest of the Church, described the exercise as an expression of the Church’s commitment to compassion, solidarity and service to humanity.

The campaign formed part of the YCWM’s longstanding community-service initiatives, highlighting the importance of voluntary blood donation, preventive healthcare and collective efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in Ghana.
