Work closely with John Boadu to strengthen party – Amb Boateng to Kodua Frimpong

Accra, Oct. 5, GNA – Mr Edward Akwasi Boateng, a former Ambassador to China, has urged Mr Justin Kodua Frimpong, the re-elected General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to work closely with Mr John Boadu, the newly elected National Chairman, to reorganise and strengthen the party.

Kodua Frimpong retained the General Secretary position at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3.

He polled 4,486 votes to beat his three contenders, Mr Sylvester Tetteh, who obtained 1,340 votes, Mr Eugene Boakye Antwi, 162 votes, and Dr Charles Dwamena, 129 votes.

In a congratulatory message, Mr Boateng described the result as a strong expression of the confidence and trust reposed in Kodua Frimpong by party delegates.

He noted that the re-election also placed Mr Kodua Frimpong in the party’s history as the first person since Mr Dan Botwe to win election as General Secretary for two consecutive terms.

Mr Boateng said the renewed mandate came with significant responsibility, particularly the need for the General Secretary to work with Mr Boadu to reorganise the party and ensure effective functioning of its structures, from the polling-station level to the national level.

“As the Party’s chief administrator, the General Secretary must work closely with Chairman John Boadu to reorganise and strengthen the Party, ensuring that its structures function effectively from the polling station to the national level,” he emphasised.

He urged Kodua Frimpong to lead with competence, fairness and humility while strengthening discipline and accountability within the party.

He also called on him to remain accessible to the grassroots and help heal divisions that might have emerged from the internal elections.

Mr Boateng said the decisive nature of Mr Frimpong’s victory gave him not only the authority to lead but also the responsibility to reach out to supporters of the other candidates and work towards greater unity within the party.

He said the new General Secretary should work with the Chairman and the entire national leadership to build a strong political organisation capable of supporting the party’s Leader and Flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, towards the 2028 general election and any subsequent administration.

“Congratulations, General Secretary. The Party has given you a resounding mandate. Use it wisely and purposefully to help rebuild a disciplined, united and formidable NPP capable of winning back the confidence of Ghanaians,” he said.
