The Accra rental marketplace puts booking, secured payment and car listing in a single app, ahead of a season that brought more than 141,000 visitors to Ghana last December
Accra, Oct 12 — WopeCar, the Accra-based car rental marketplace, today launched a mobile app that lets travellers book a car in Ghana, verify their identity and arrange airport pickup before they board their flight. The app is available now on iOS and Android, alongside a rebuilt wopecar.com.
The launch is timed for the months when Ghana’s busiest travel season is actually decided. Diaspora visitors returning for December typically book flights between August and October and arrange ground transport four to eight weeks before departure — well before they land.
Until now, that arrangement usually meant a WhatsApp thread, a phone call from a foreign number, a website booking or nothing at all until arrival at Accra International Airport. WopeCar’s app replaces this with an end-to-end booking process that can be completed from anywhere: choose a vehicle, upload a Ghana Card, passport or driver’s licence for verification, pay by card or Mobile Money, and confirm vehicle pickup or an airport meeting point.
Once the trip starts, the same app handles messaging the driver, extending a rental and managing the booking.

“People coming home for December have enough to organise. Where their car is coming from shouldn’t be one of those things,” said Yusif, founder of WopeCar. “We kept hearing the same story: someone arrives at Kotoka after six to nine hours in the air and starts making calls. The whole point of the app is that no calls are needed—they book from their sofa in London or Maryland, land, tap, and drive off.”
The demand for advanced ground transport becomes even more significant during Ghana’s peak December travel season. According to the Ghana Tourism Authority, Ghana recorded 141,186 international arrivals in December 2025, an 11.35% increase over the same month in 2024, while total international arrivals for the year reached 1,306,962. With thousands of visitors arriving for concerts, festivals, heritage experiences and family reunions, the December surge also increases demand for reliable transportation that can be arranged before travellers arrive in Ghana.
WopeCar operates a two-sided marketplace. Renters book self-drive or chauffeur-driven vehicles—such as sedans, mid-size SUVs, 4x4s, buses and pickups—across Greater Accra and the Ashanti Region for on-demand or long-term use. Car owners list idle vehicles through the platform’s “Share Your Car” page. Approval is secured, once all requirements, including their insurance cover, are met. The new app gives owners a view of their bookings and earnings for the first time.
The refreshed website launches the same day, with rebuilt pages for airport rentals, self-drive hire and December travel, and keeps the multi-currency pricing in USD, EUR and GHS.
The WopeCar app is available now on the App Store and coming soon on Google Play. Booking is also available at wopecar.com.
