Kadjebi (O/R), Oct. 26, GNA – Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Akan Constituency erupted in jubilation on Saturday as several incumbent executives retained their positions in the party’s constituency executive elections held at Kadjebi in the Oti Region.

The successful candidates were kissed, hugged and showered with powder by jubilant supporters.

The re-elected executives included Mr Eric Kwadwo Apeadu, Constituency Chairman; Mr Isaac Abavon, Secretary; Mr Daniel Ofori, Treasurer; Mr Mutala Ibrahim, Zongo Caucus Representative; Mr Faisal Alhassan, Deputy Treasurer; Mr Philip Obornie, Assistant Secretary; and Ms Happy Mamam, Women’s Organiser.

Mr Ofori retained the treasurer position with 757 votes, beating Mr Reuben Kemavor, who polled 288 votes.

Mr Alhassan also retained the Deputy Treasurer position with 748 votes, defeating Mr Cyril Eclumor, who obtained 296 votes.

In the Zongo Caucus contest, Mr Mutala retained his position with 473 votes, while Mr Tajudeen Sulemana and Mr Harisu Issaka polled 352 and 220 votes, respectively.

Mr Obornie retained the Assistant Secretary position with 592 votes, defeating Mr Yawuza Yakubu, who polled 448 votes.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Apeadu, the re-elected Constituency Chairman, expressed appreciation to the delegates for the confidence reposed in the incumbent executives, which resulted in their re-election.

He described the victory as a collective achievement, saying there were no losers because the elections were an internal party affair.

He urged unsuccessful aspirants to rally behind the elected executives to secure a resounding victory for the NDC in the 2028 general elections.

A total of 24 constituency executives were elected to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.

The election recorded a turnout of 1,049 out of 1,069 registered delegates and was generally peaceful, with no major incidents reported.

The Rashid Bawa Assembly Hall of the Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School (KASEC), which served as the voting centre, hosted delegates and supporters who gathered to participate in the elections and witness the declaration of results by Mr Christian Bokode, the Kadjebi District Electoral Officer.

The Akan Constituency has consistently voted for the NDC in parliamentary and presidential elections since Ghana’s return to multiparty democracy in 1992.
