Wa (UW/R), Oct. 14, GNA – The MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its telecommunications network through sustained investment in infrastructure to improve coverage, service quality and connectivity across the country.
The company said it had invested about $1.1 billion in its network over three years, including about $318 million in 2026 alone.
Mr Joseph Dogbe, the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer at MTN Ghana, revealed this in Wa, during the Upper West Regional edition of MTN’s Media and Stakeholders Forum.
The Editors Forum, held annually, sought to, among other things, strengthen its collaboration with the media and stakeholders and update them on its operations in the country.
Heads of newsrooms in the region, the Wa Municipal Chief Executive and representatives from the National Communication Authority (NCA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), among other stakeholders, attended the forum.
Mr Dogbe said the investments were aimed at enhancing network capacity, improving customer experience, and strengthening infrastructure resilience to meet the increasing demand for digital services.
He indicated that MTN Ghana was deploying 500 new network sites across the country to extend coverage, improve service delivery and ensure that more communities benefited from reliable connectivity.
On digital financial services, he noted that the telecommunications giant had also prioritised opportunities for individuals and businesses to participate in the digital economy.
“We believe that the true value of connectivity is measured not only by the sites we build and the technology we develop, but by the opportunities we create to touch the lives of real people in our society,” Mr Dogbe explained.
Mr Dogbe observed that mobile money had become an important tool for financial inclusion by enabling people to make payments, transfer funds and support their businesses seamlessly.
He said the increasing adoption of digital financial services demonstrated the importance of reliable connectivity in expanding economic opportunities.
The Chief Risk and Compliance Officer, however, acknowledged the need to strengthen cybersecurity and protect customer information as more Ghanaians embraced the company’s digital platforms.
He said that was because data privacy and cybersecurity were fundamental to maintaining customer confidence and ensuring the safe use of the digital services.
Mr Dogbe also highlighted MTN Ghana’s contribution to national development through tax compliance, employment, community interventions and investments in young people’s development.
He said the company paid about GHS5.6 billion in direct and indirect taxes during the first half of 2026, which underscored its contribution to national revenue mobilisation.
MTN Ghana, through the MTN Ghana Foundation, also continued to implement interventions in education, healthcare and economic empowerment to improve livelihoods across the country.
One of the initiatives was the MTN Skills Academy, which aimed to equip 100,000 young people with digital skills to prepare them for employment and other opportunities in the digital economy.
MTN Ghana said it was also piloting the customer-initiated cash-out system as part of efforts to improve customers’ security in Mobile Money transactions.
As part of efforts to expedite its in-person services to customers, the telecommunications giant had also established 632 MTN community shops across the country.
Out of that number, 14 were in the Upper West Region, with plans to establish an additional eight community shops in the region by the end of 2026.
