Accra, Oct. 23, GNA – Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has engaged Dr Christian Rogg, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, on strengthening economic cooperation, advancing gender equity, and empowering women.

A statement issued by the office of the Vice President said Ghana and the United Kingdom share a longstanding relationship, but we must increasingly measure the strength of that partnership by the opportunities it creates for their people and its contribution to their development priorities.

It said this formed the basis of the Vice President’s engagement with Dr Rogg at Presidency in Accra, during which they discussed strengthening economic cooperation and advancing gender equity and women’s empowerment.

On economic cooperation, they reflected on the evolving relationship between their countries and the importance of partnerships that promoted trade, investment, enterprise and sustainable job creation.

Their discussions also considered opportunities for Ghanaian businesses to participate more meaningfully in value addition and international markets, and the need to adapt the bilateral and multilateral partnerships to changing global realities.

On gender equity, they discussed Ghana’s progress in strengthening the legislative framework for women’s participation and empowerment, including the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Regulations, and the importance of effective implementation that produces measurable improvements in people’s lives.

They also reflected on Ghana’s growing population and the need to equip young people with skills relevant to the economy they were building.

Vice President Professor Opoku-Agyemang thanked the High Commissioner for the engagement and reaffirm her office’s readiness to support practical, mutually beneficial collaboration that delivers meaningful outcomes for both countries.
