Tema, Oct. 20, GNA – The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) says Ghana’s share of petroleum products supplied to Burkina Faso has increased from about 15 per cent to 40 per cent of the country’s national consumption since President John Dramani Mahama returned to office.

The development reflects growing petroleum trade relations between Ghana and Burkina Faso, with TOR and Burkina Faso’s national petroleum company, Sonabhy, seeking to strengthen cooperation and explore additional commercial opportunities.

Mr Edmond Kombat, Managing Director of TOR, disclosed this during a meeting with a Sonabhy delegation led by its Managing Director, Dr Patrice Forogo, to discuss ways of deepening collaboration in the petroleum industry.

Mr Kombat said the relationship between the two institutions had played a significant role in facilitating petroleum trade through Ghana to the market served by Sonabhy.

He said the growing partnership presented opportunities to expand cross-border petroleum trade, strengthen commercial relationships and consolidate Ghana’s position as a petroleum supply and trading hub in West Africa.

Dr Forogo expressed appreciation for the collaboration and reaffirmed Sonabhy’s commitment to strengthening petroleum trade through Ghana.

He expressed optimism about future cooperation between the two companies, particularly in generating additional revenue through mutually beneficial petroleum transactions and services.

Dr Forogo congratulated Mr Kombat on his appointment as Managing Director of TOR and wished him success in delivering on his mandate.

The Sonabhy delegation also paid a courtesy call on Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister of Energy and Green Transition, to express appreciation to him, President Mahama and the Government of Ghana for their support in facilitating the movement, trading and supply of petroleum products to Burkina Faso.

The engagement provided an opportunity for the institutions to explore ways of improving product supply arrangements, strengthening commercial relations and contributing to regional energy security.

The visit concluded with a tour of key facilities at TOR, including the utilities section, tank farm, new safety block, quality control unit and the F-61 furnace at the Crude Distillation Unit.

The tour enabled the delegation to observe the refinery’s operations, infrastructure and ongoing development activities.
