Accra, Oct. 11, GNA – Three journalists from the Ghana News Agency (GNA) have been selected for the 2026 UK Media Excellence for Emerging Technologies (UK MEET) Fellowship.

They are Mr Eric Appah Marfo and Mr Anthony Adongo, Editors, and Mr Solomon Gumah, a freelance journalist.

The three were selected from more than 500 applications submitted by journalists and content creators across Ghana and Nigeria, placing them among the 13 per cent admitted to the competitive programme.

The fellowship seeks to strengthen science and technology journalism by equipping participants with skills to scrutinise scientific claims, verify information and report complex technological developments accurately and accessibly.

The 30-member Ghana cohort began virtual orientation sessions on October 6 and 8, ahead of a residential programme in Accra from October 11 to 17, 2026.

The programme will cover artificial intelligence, climate change and resilience, biomedical innovation and public health, and electronic waste and the circular economy.

Through masterclasses, practical storytelling workshops, editorial clinics and engagements with researchers, participants will learn to assess evidence, interrogate technological claims, identify relevant data and translate complex scientific developments into accessible stories.

The sessions will also help fellows refine their story pitches, strengthen their sources and develop strategies for producing rigorous reports.

Participants who demonstrate strong application of the training and develop the most rigorous pitches will be considered for a knowledge-exchange programme in London in late November. They will engage with researchers at Imperial College London and gain insights into scientific research.

The fellowship is delivered by Imperial College London through Imperial Global Ghana, in partnership with the British High Commission in Accra and the UK in Nigeria, with support from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

It aims to strengthen journalism’s role in critically examining emerging technologies and explaining their implications for the public.
