Ve-Golokuati (V/R), Oct. 4, GNA – Three staff members of the Cedar Hospital in Hohoe have sustained serious injuries in a road accident at Ve-Golokuati on the Fodome-Hohoe road.
The accident, which occurred at about 1800 hours on Friday, October 2, involved a Kia Bongo vehicle with registration number AD-9170-26 and a motorbike carrying the three hospital staff.
The Kia Bongo was transporting members of the St. Comboni Brass Band from Liati, while the motorbike was conveying the Cedar Hospital staff.
Preliminary reports indicate that the occupants of both vehicles were returning from separate funeral events when the accident occurred.
Eyewitnesses told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the accident occurred at a sharp curve at Ve-Golokuati, where the Kia Bongo and motorbike collided.
The injured were rushed to the Ve-Golokuati Health Centre for emergency treatment.
Health officials at the Centre said the students aboard the Kia Bongo sustained minor injuries and were treated and discharged.
The three hospital staff on the motorbike, however, sustained severe injuries.
A medical source at the facility told the GNA that two of them sustained fractures, while the third suffered a head injury.
The source said the three were stabilised and subsequently referred to the Hohoe Municipal Hospital for further treatment and specialist care.
Their conditions were said to be critical but stable.
The cause of the accident is yet to be established, and the police have commenced investigations.
The Afadzato South District Police Command has urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to road traffic regulations, particularly when using the Fodome-Hohoe stretch.
Meanwhile, some residents have called for the construction of speed ramps and the provision of adequate road signs at Ve-Golokuati to help prevent recurring accidents.
