Logba Akusame (V/R), Oct 13, GNA –Madam Lydia Agbosu, a 32-year-old teacher at Logba Akusame-Vuinta D/A JHS in the Afadzato South District of the Volta Region, is appealing to government, philanthropists, churches and the public to help her raise GHS100,000 for an urgent total hip replacement surgery.

Madam Agbosu, an English Language and Religious and Moral Education teacher, has been living with severe pain in her left hip for about ten years.

According to medical reports, she confirmed to GNA that she was well until the pain suddenly began after a long journey on a motorbike. She was treated and underwent physiotherapy, but the pain persisted, and she now walks with a limp on her left leg with the aid of crutches.

Tests conducted at the Volta Regional Hospital, Hohoe, confirmed that she has sickle cell disease (genotype SC). An X-ray also revealed severe osteoarthritis of the left hip joint and necrosis (death of bone tissue) of the head of the left femur.

In a medical report dated April 28, 2026, a General Surgeon at the hospital, Dr. (Med) Isaac Akandi, stated that she requires hip surgery by an orthopaedic surgeon and declared her a person living with disability.

She was subsequently referred to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge), where a Senior Specialist Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr Gyeke Boafo, diagnosed her with end-stage osteoarthritis of the left hip and necrosis of the femoral head.

In a report dated June 4, 2026, the hospital confirmed she is being prepared for a total hip replacement, with the cost of the implant, theatre, and other hospital bills estimated at GHS100,000.

Her condition has made it very difficult for her to sit or stand for long periods, seriously affecting her ability to teach. Despite this, she continues to make the long daily journey to school to serve her pupils.

Madam Agbosu says she cannot raise the amount on her own and is pleading with government, churches, institutions, corporate bodies and individuals of goodwill to come to her aid with whatever they can afford.

She believes the surgery will relieve her pain and allow her to return fully to the classroom to carry out her duties in good health.

Donations can be sent via Mobile Money to 0543595465 or 0536337714.
