Accra, Oct. 3, GNA – The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Ambassador Raymond “Ray” Quarcoo, describing him as a distinguished diplomat, entrepreneur, sports administrator and a cherished patron of the Association.

In a statement signed by SWAG President Mr Kwabena Yeboah, said Ambassador Quarcoo made significant contributions to Ghana’s sporting landscape, particularly through his support for boxing and sports journalism.

SWAG noted that Ambassador Quarcoo’s relationship with the Association reflected his strong appreciation for sports journalism and his commitment to supporting efforts aimed at documenting and promoting Ghanaian sports.

The Association described the late ambassador as a passionate supporter of boxing whose dedication to the sport earned him the admiration and respect of athletes, administrators and members of the wider sporting fraternity.

According to SWAG, Ambassador Quarcoo played an important role in promoting boxing in Ghana and consistently supported boxers and initiatives aimed at developing the sport.

His support for the Association was equally remarkable, with SWAG recalling his close relationship with sports journalists and his regular attendance at major events organised by the Association, especially the prestigious SWAG Awards.

The statement highlighted his participation in the Golden Jubilee SWAG Awards celebration, where he joined the Association in commemorating 50 years of recognising excellence and outstanding achievements in Ghanaian sports.

SWAG said Ambassador Quarcoo’s warmth, generosity, sound counsel and willingness to support sporting initiatives made him a respected and admired figure within Ghana’s sports community.

The Association described his death as the loss of a father, friend, patron and valued member of the extended SWAG family, adding that his contribution to sports development and journalism would remain part of his enduring legacy.

“The leadership and entire membership of SWAG extend our deepest condolences to the Quarcoo family,” the statement said.

SWAG assured the bereaved family of its solidarity during this difficult period and prayed for strength and comfort for them.

The Association said although Ambassador Quarcoo would be greatly missed, his support for Ghanaian sports, especially boxing, and his longstanding association with SWAG would never be forgotten.
