Tamale, Oct 03, GNA – Sakasaka Football Club (FC) and Gumani FC have secured places in the finals of this year’s inter-community football gala organised by MTN Ghana as part of activities marking its Savannah Fest.
Sakasaka FC booked their place after defeating Sabonjida FC on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time in the first semi-final match while Gumani FC defeated Shishegu FC 2-0 in regulation time in the second semi-final encounter.
Both matches were played at the NOBISCO Park in Tamale on Friday afternoon.
The two finalists will meet on Saturday, October 03, at the NOBISCO Park to battle for the ultimate trophy in the competition involving community-based football clubs drawn from the Tamale, Sagnarigu and Tolon Assemblies.
The inter-community gala, which commenced on September 18, brought together 16 teams from communities within the three assemblies.
The final is expected to attract football enthusiasts and residents from the participating communities as the two sides seek to emerge as champions of the inter-community football gala.
Baba Adini, Coach of Sakasaka FC, after his team’s qualification to the final, told journalists at the Park that his side was determined to go all the way to win the competition.
He said “Today’s game was very difficult, but we thank God that we won on penalties. We took the lead but in the second half, they equalised. I think they were tired at that time, but we thank God that we won today’s match on penalties.”
He said his side reached the final of the competition last year but failed to win the trophy adding the experience had strengthened the team’s resolve to go one step further this year.
The competition formed part of MTN Ghana’s 2026 Savannah Fest, an initiative aimed at engaging communities in the northern part of the country through sports and other social activities.
