Bongo (U/E), Oct. 4, GNA – The Bolgatanga Goodwill Rotary Club has donated 50 dual desks to the Kangkoom Primary School in the Bongo District to improve teaching and learning conditions for pupils facing a severe shortage of classroom furniture.

The intervention followed a needs assessment that revealed that the school, with a pupil population of 253, had only 28 dual desks, forcing many pupils to use the classroom floor as writing surfaces during lessons.

At a brief ceremony to hand over the furniture to the school, Mr Alexis Ayamdor, the President of the Bolgatanga Goodwill Rotary Club, said the needs assessment informed the decision to support the school with the furniture.

He said the donation formed part of the Rotary Club’s development agenda to complement government efforts to address challenges confronting deprived schools and improve access to quality education.

Mr Ayamdor disclosed that the furniture was procured with funding from the District Grants of Rotary International, District 9104.
He urged the school authorities to maintain the desks properly to ensure their durability, adding that the club would continue to monitor the furniture to ensure it served its intended purpose.

Ms Diana Asoketarige Ayamga, the Bongo District Chief Executive, commended the Bolgatanga Goodwill Rotary Club for the intervention and urged other development partners to emulate the Club by supporting schools in need.

She said the District Assembly was aware of the furniture deficit confronting schools in the district and indicated that plans were far advanced to procure additional furniture to improve teaching and learning.

Ms Ayamga also gave an assurance that additional teachers would be deployed to the school through the recruitment process to strengthen teaching and improve learning outcomes.

She called for closer collaboration among the Assembly, education authorities, parents, and other stakeholders to address challenges facing schools in the district.

The DCE further urged parents to supervise their children’s academic work and support their education both at home and in school.
Mr Thomas Ayamdor, the Bongo District Director of Education, expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club for the donation and pledged that the furniture would be properly maintained.

He said the desks would help improve classroom conditions and create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning at the school.
