Toende (U/E), Oct. 19, GNA – Mr Donatus Akamugri Atanga, the Upper East Regional Minister, has commissioned a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound at Toende in the Bawku West District as part of his “Accounting to the People Tour” across districts in the region.

Before the construction of the facility, residents relied on a dilapidated structure for healthcare services.

The newly constructed facility comprises a delivery room equipped with two delivery beds, a lying-in room, consulting, detention and dispensary rooms, an Out-Patient Department (OPD) all fitted with ceiling fans and furniture, washrooms, and four-unit staff accommodation.

Speaking at a brief commissioning ceremony attended by Mr James Ayamwego, the Bawku West District Chief Executive (DCE), and officials of the Regional Coordinating Council and the District Assembly, Mr Atanga said the facility was constructed with funding from the district’s Common Fund allocation.

“As far as health is concerned, the President has the people at heart and has allocated funding for the construction of CHPS compounds and health facilities to serve the various deprived communities,” he said.

The Regional Minister said the facility formed part of efforts to expand access to healthcare in the district, noting that the quality of services provided would determine its ability to attract residents from neighbouring communities.

“If the service is of quality, everybody will come,” Mr Atanga said.

He expressed confidence that the facility would contribute to saving lives, protecting the younger generation and improving access to quality healthcare, which he described as essential to national development.

Mr Atanga reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving healthcare access in deprived communities through the construction of CHPS compounds and other health facilities across the country.

He urged stakeholders to ensure that the facility was put to effective use to meet the healthcare needs of residents.

Mr Stephen Bordotsiah, the Bawku West District Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), expressed gratitude to the District Assembly for the facility and said it would boost staff morale and confidence, and enable them to deliver quality healthcare.

He assured members of the public that the facility would be put to good use to improve healthcare delivery in the community.

Naba Anyagre Azure, Chief of Toende, also expressed appreciation to the government for the facility and appealed for the provision of additional infrastructures to improve the well-being of residents.
