Pope Leo’s lung cancer has not spread, doctors say

Rome, Oct 22. (dpa/GNA) – Pope Leo XIV’s lung cancer has not spread, and he will not need further treatment, his doctors said on Wednesday.

The head of the Catholic Church had an operation last week to remove the lower lobe of his right lung, which contained a malignant tumour.

It was initially unclear whether the cancer had spread to other parts of the pontiff’s body.

The 71-year-old’s doctors said, examinations of the tissue removed during the surgery had shown, and the disease was localized.

The tumour that was removed, was a lung adenocarcinoma, which experts say is the most common form of lung cancer.
