Accra, Oct. 13, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama has announced that a second batch of 40 armored vehicles for the Ghana Police Service will be delivered in the next coming weeks as part of Government’s efforts to retool the Service.
He made the disclosure in his remarks in Accra, when he formally commissioned a new 85-bed ward at the Police Hospital, which was named after Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
President Mahama recalled that last year December, he handed over 50 armored vehicles to the Ghana Police Service to enhance its operations and improve protection for officers.
“We are also procuring additional body armor to provide additional protection for officers who go on operational duties,” he said.
President Mahama said, he had requested the Minister of Finance to provide GH¢300 million in the 2027 budget to construct 250 new apartments for the Police to ease congestion in some of their barracks.
He said these measures, together with the expansion of the Police Hospital, were part of their efforts to strengthen the Police Services’ capacity to keep the country safe while reducing the risk faced by its personnel.

Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Minister for the Interior, said President Mahama’s enduring commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and enhancing the welfare of their security personnel continues to leave a lasting imprint on the nation.
He said the facility stands as a visible reminder of that commitment and of the President’s determination to build a stronger and more inclusive Ghana.
Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector General of Police, expressed his profound appreciation for the President for his continued support of the Police Service and the attention he gives to personal welfare.
He said the Police Administration would continue to pursue initiatives that improve the health, welfare, and operational effectiveness of their officers.
