Tamale, Oct. 06, GNA – The Northern Regional Police Command has begun investigations into the deaths of three children whose bodies were discovered in the boot of a vehicle at Koblimahagu Zoo in Tamale.

The deceased have been identified as Dauda Abdul Aziz, aged three; Saani Alsharaf, aged five; and Dauda Fadilan, aged seven.

A statement issued in Tamale by the Northern Regional Police Command, signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Wisdom Lavoe, Northern Regional Police Commander, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the children were reported missing on October 05, 2026.

It said: “On 5th October, 2026 Police received a complaint that the children allegedly left home for Islamic classes at about 8am on Sunday, October 04, 2026 but did not return home.”

The statement said efforts by members of the community to locate the children were unsuccessful until about 5 a.m. on Monday, October 05, when their bodies were discovered in the boot of a black Hyundai Tucson with registration number AS 1770-14.

It said the Police proceeded to the scene, where the vehicle was found stuck in mud on a road leading to the area.

“Preliminary inspection revealed that the driver’s door and the rear passenger door behind the driver’s seat were open while the other doors including the boot were locked.”

The statement said preliminary investigations indicated that the vehicle belonged to an officer of the Ghana Immigration Service, who told the Police that it had been stuck in the mud for the previous five days.

“He has since been arrested and being taken to Accra to assist the investigation,” it said.

The statement said the Inspector-General of Police had deployed a special team comprising homicide investigators, crime scene experts and intelligence officers to Tamale to support the Northern Regional Police Command in the investigation.

It said the vehicle had been secured for further forensic examination.

“The outcome of the autopsy and ongoing investigations are expected to provide further information on the circumstances surrounding the deaths,” the statement said.

It assured the public that all necessary investigative steps were being taken to establish the circumstances that led to the deaths of the three children.

The Police urged members of the public to remain calm while investigations continued and said further updates would be communicated.
