Pastor urges Christians to give cheerfully

Fiave (V/R), Oct. 19, GNA – Pastor Alfred Agbetsiafa, Fiave District Pastor of The Church of Pentecost in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region, has urged Christians to give willingly and cheerfully towards the work of God, regardless of their financial circumstances.

He said giving was an expression of love, faith, gratitude and commitment to God, and should not be accompanied by complaints, resentment or compulsion.

Preaching at the Fiave Central Assembly of the Church during the Area Week Sunday service on the theme, “Giving,” with reference to 2 Corinthians 8:1–15, Pastor Agbetsiafa encouraged believers to give according to their abilities and trust God to provide for their needs.

He said Christians did not need to become wealthy before giving but should willingly contribute from what they had without being forced.

Drawing on his years of ministry, he said God had blessed members of churches in smaller towns, with some of their children gaining opportunities and occupying positions in higher institutions, partly reflecting the sacrifices their parents had made for the work of God.

Pastor Agbetsiafa urged Christians to remain faithful during difficult times, saying trials were part of the Christian journey and required believers to trust God for strength and sustenance.

He cited the Macedonian churches as an example of generosity, explaining that despite their poverty and afflictions, they gave generously and joyfully.

He said their example demonstrated that generosity was not determined solely by material possessions but also by the condition of the heart.

The pastor also urged Christians to live holy lives, do good and make sacrifices for the advancement of God’s kingdom.

He encouraged them to renew their minds through God’s Word, maintain godly attitudes and exercise faith rather than allow fear and negative thoughts to influence their decisions.

He further advised believers to speak with hope about their circumstances and future, while trusting in God’s promises.

On child upbringing, Pastor Agbetsiafa urged parents to encourage their children to aspire to greater heights and support them through prayer, discipline, education and godly values.

He said parents should instil confidence and hope in their children, helping them to pursue their aspirations and prepare for a better future.

In conclusion, he called on Christians to demonstrate their faith through joyful giving, holy living, perseverance during trials and commitment to God’s work.
