Paris, Oct 26. (dpa/GNA) – The suspect in a racist terror attack near Paris that left one dead, fired off more than 100 rounds, anti-terrorism prosecutor Olivier Christen said on Monday.
Investigators had counted 128 rounds fired, Christen said. The gunman fired at eight locations within an area of 12 kilometres. He had prepared his deadly plan to a particular extent, according to the prosecutor.
Authorities are investigating the suspect for murder and attempted murder with terrorist links and a racist component.
According to Christen, the 39-year-old suspect denied the racist character of the attack. The Frenchman, in whose blood traces of cannabis and cocaine had been found, was at one point transferred to a psychiatric unit. He is now back in police custody.
On Friday, a man fired from a car with an automatic weapon in the towns of Trappes and La Verrière, just to the west of Paris.
One person was killed and four others were injured, some of them seriously.
The suspect was arrested shortly afterwards.
President Emmanuel Macron condemned the incident as a “racist terrorist attack.”
