Bodi (W/R), Oct. 17, GNA – The Bodi District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised a day’s engagement to empower women to speak up against corruption, abuse of office and violations of the rule of law.

The event, held at Bodi, brought together 50 women from various groups and stakeholders across the district.

The programme, co-funded by the European Union (EU) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) under the Anti-Corruption and Rule of Law Project, sought to empower participants to become ambassadors against corruption in their communities.

The participants were taken through the principles of the rule of law, transparency and civic responsibility.

Mr Emmanuel Awotwe, Bodi District Director of the NCCE, underscored the crucial role of women in promoting accountability and good governance, noting that corruption and abuse of office disproportionately affected women.

He encouraged them to report corrupt practices encountered in their communities to the appropriate authorities and actively participate in local governance processes.

Mr Isaac Ofori, an officer at the Bodi District Office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), educated participants on their rights, the mandate of CHRAJ and the appropriate channels for reporting corruption, abuse of power and human rights violations.

He assured them of confidentiality and protection when they reported such cases to the relevant authorities for redress.

The participants expressed appreciation to the organisers for the engagement, saying it had enhanced their understanding of their civic responsibilities and the importance of combating corruption and promoting accountability in society.
