Salaga (S/R), Oct 30, GNA – The East Gonja Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has held a follow-up engagement with women groups in the municipality to assess their understanding of anti-corruption measures, the rule of law and accountability.
The engagement, held at Salaga, sought to determine how knowledge acquired during an earlier engagement on anti-corruption, the rule of law and the fight against corruption had influenced participants’ attitudes and perceptions towards corrupt practices and responsible citizenship.
It was also to reinforce the importance of integrity, transparency, accountability and respect for the rule of law as essential principles for promoting good governance and national development.
The session began with a recap of issues discussed during the earlier engagement, with participants invited to explain the concepts of corruption, the rule of law and accountability.
Mr Abdul-Latif Iddrisu, East Gonja Municipal Director, NCCE, who was a facilitator, used interactive questions and practical examples from everyday life to assess participants’ understanding of the concepts and their ability to identify corrupt practices.
Discussions centered on common forms of corruption including bribery, favouritism, embezzlement of public funds and the abuse of entrusted authority.
The facilitators explained that corruption undermined effective public service delivery, deprived communities of essential development projects and eroded public confidence in state institutions.
Participants were also reminded of their civic responsibilities to promote transparency, report suspected corrupt practices through appropriate lawful channels and demand accountability from public officials.
During the discussions, participants shared their experiences and observations on corruption and accountability identifying practices such as offering or demanding bribes, using personal connections to secure unfair advantages and failing to question the misuse of public resources as behaviours that encouraged corruption.
