Gwollu (UW/R), Oct. 02, GNA – The Sissala West District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged women’s groups in the district to deepen their understanding of the rule of law, anti-corruption, and accountability.
The engagement was to assess how participants had applied knowledge acquired during earlier sensitization drives and to reinforce positive attitudes and behaviors.
The forum was organised by the NCCE with support from the Deutsche Gesellschaft fĂĽr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and co-funded by the European Union (EU) under the project: “Civic Engagement on the Rule of Law and Fight Against Corruption.”
It was also aimed at strengthening women’s capacity to apply the principles of the rule of law, resist corruption, to promote accountability, and encourage ethical practices in their communities.
Mr Iddrisu Mustapha, Sissala West District Director of the NCCE, said the engagement was to foster civic duty and responsibility among the women and to empower them to speak against wrongdoing without fear.
He called on them to respect the rule of law and report suspected corrupt practices to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.

Mr Timothy Niona Sukpeni, Sissala West Assistant Coordinating Director, encouraged the participants to cooperate with lawful institutions and demand accountability.
He encouraged them not to be discouraged in reporting corrupt cases, stressing that it would help combat the practice and allow development to thrive in their communities.
The engagement featured an interactive session where participants shared personal experiences, successes, challenges, and suggestions to address corruption and strengthen adherence to the rule of law.
Madam Dasaah Grace, a leader of the Christian Mothers Association and participant, said the earlier engagement had helped her understand corruption and its manifestation at the market, workplace, home and in their associations.
“I used to think corruption is only associated with those occupying public offices and big positions, but the earlier session made me understand that corruption emanates from our homes, workplaces, markets, communities and even amongst husbands and wives and their children.
