Ayiem (W/R), Oct. 27, GNA – The Mpohor-Fiase District Assembly has engaged residents and other stakeholders on development priorities, budget performance, and public financial management at its Third-Quarter Public Financial Management Town Hall Meeting.
The meeting, held at the Ayiem, provided a platform for the Assembly to account for its financial and developmental activities, discuss ongoing and planned projects, and receive feedback from residents on interventions intended to improve upon service delivery across the district.
The engagement formed part of the Assembly’s efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in local governance, giving residents an opportunity to seek information, express concerns and contribute to development planning.
It was held within the broader framework of Ghana’s decentralisation and development planning arrangements, which emphasised on public participation in local governance and the formulation and implementation of development programmes.
Mr Sherrif Rockson, the Mpohor-Fiase District Planning Officer, at the event, highlighted a major intervention being pursued by the District Chief Executive (DCE) and the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, for the establishment of an oil palm processing centre to support women engaged in the oil palm value chain in Ayiem and its surrounding communities.
He said efforts were underway to advance the initiative, which was expected to materialise potentially before the end of 2026.

Mr Rockson stated that the proposed processing centre was expected to create opportunities for women involved in the oil palm business by supporting value addition and improving their capacity to process and market oil palm products.
If realised, the facility could boost local economic activity and enhance livelihood opportunities for women in Ayiem and its environs, Mr Rockson added.
Discussions also focused on projects earmarked for communities within the Ayiem Area Council, with some residents urging the Assembly’s leadership and development planners to reconsider interventions they viewed less relevant to their immediate needs.
They called for greater attention to projects that directly addressed pressing community challenges, stressing the importance of consulting residents in determining development priorities to ensure that public investments delivered meaningful benefits.
The engagement underscored the importance of sustained dialogue between local authorities and residents in ensuring that development initiatives reflected the needs and aspirations of beneficiary communities.
