Bundase (G/A), Oct. 30, GNA – Mr Peter Lanchene Toobu, a member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee and Member of Parliament for Wa West, has commended the Ghana Armed Forces for the level of coordination and preparedness demonstrated at the 2026 Ghana Armed Forces Land Combat and Firepower exercise.
The exercise, held at the Battle Training Camp, Bundase, near Accra, on Friday, brought together military personnel and other security stakeholders as part of the Ghana Army’s operational training programme.
It featured demonstrations of weapons and ammunition deployment by battlefield units, as well as emergency medical treatment for wounded personnel, including simulated traumatic amputations.

Brigadier General Edward Awaribey, General Officer Commanding, Southern Command, said the exercise was a practical demonstration of the military’s readiness to defend the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty while strengthening its capacity to respond to emerging security threats.
He said it also provided an opportunity for cross-service learning, professional exchange and the demonstration of capabilities required by future operational commanders.
The objectives of the exercise included demonstrating the integration of fire-support assets within a joint task force, exposing participants to the complexities of the battlefield, and strengthening interoperability among the various military components.
It was led by the 5th Infantry Battalion, with support from other infantry, artillery, armoured, engineer, signals and special operations units, as well as the Ghana Navy and Air Force.

Brig Gen Awaribey said the coordinated deployment of personnel and equipment underscored the importance of synchronising land, sea, and air capabilities to achieve operational objectives.
The demonstration also featured simulated reconnaissance operations, battlefield manoeuvres, coordinated firepower and the treatment of battlefield casualties, giving participants and observers an appreciation of the demands of modern warfare.
Brig. Gen. Awaribey said the exercise was particularly relevant in the face of evolving security threats in the West African sub-region, including terrorist activities and transnational criminal networks, which required sustained vigilance and operational preparedness.
The GAF is mandated to defend Ghana’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It also supports civil authorities in maintaining internal security when required.
The Ghana Army, as the land component of the Armed Forces, conducts regular training exercises to strengthen its operational capabilities and preparedness.
These exercises are aimed at improving soldiers’ skills, teamwork, and readiness for demanding operational environments.
