Accra, Oct.26, GNA – Medeama SC reclaimed the top spot in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Aduana FC on matchday eight.
Nana Kofi Babil struck in the 81st minute at the TnA Stadium to hand Medeama all three points and help the defending champions bounce back from their first defeat of the season against FC Samartex.
The victory saw Medeama move level on 17 points with Hearts of Oak, who had temporarily gone top on Friday following Martin Karikari’s late winner against Basake Holy Stars.
Asante Kotoko were held to a 1-1 draw by FC AshantiGold 04 in an entertaining Ashanti Derby at the Len Clay Stadium.
AshantiGold took the lead four minutes before the break when Boateng’s long-range effort took a deflection and wrong-footed the goalkeeper.
Kotoko responded in the 63rd minute through Patrick Asiedu, whose superb free-kick restored parity. Despite both sides pushing for a winner, neither could find the breakthrough, leaving the Porcupine Warriors still searching for their first away victory of the campaign.
Port City FC produced one of the standout performances of Matchday Eight with a dramatic 2-1 triumph over Karela United at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.
Owusu Ansah broke the deadlock in the 77th minute before Iddi Mahfuz equalised for the hosts three minutes from time. Ansah, however, had the final say, striking in the 89th minute to complete his brace and secure Port City’s second away win of the season.
The result lifted the newcomers to third place, while Karela slumped to back-to-back defeats.
Bechem United returned to winning ways with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Debibi United at the Nana Gyeabour Park. Isaiah Nyarko opened the scoring before Kelvin Appiah netted twice in the second half to seal an emphatic win that moved Bechem into sixth place. Debibi, meanwhile, dropped into the relegation zone.
Dreams FC’s difficult start to the season continued as they suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Vision FC at the Tuba Astro Turf.
Swedru All Blacks continued their fine form with a 2-1 away victory over Young Apostles at the Wenchi Stadium.
William Dankwah opened the scoring in the 55th minute before Godfred Yartey doubled the visitors’ advantage eight minutes from time. Mumuni Iliasu pulled one back late on for Young Apostles, but All Blacks held firm to record a third successive victory and move into fifth place on 14 points.
