Damascus, Oct 1. (dpa/GNA) – Seven people were killed and four others injured in a gun attack on a bus in the Syrian province of Homs, officials said on Thursday.
The state news agency SANA reported, citing health authorities in Homs, that unknown assailants opened fire on the bus carrying civilians on a bridge in the west of the province.
Civil defence sources separately confirmed the casualty figures to dpa.
Syrian security forces have launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the attack. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the victims are believed to be members of the Alawite community.
Masked men posing as security forces, stopped the bus near a security checkpoint and opened fire, as it crossed the bridge, the observatory said.
