Accra, Oct. 28, GNA – The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a 52-year-old man for allegedly possessing 37 parcels of narcotic drugs suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Saani, was arrested on October 25, 2026, with a bag containing the suspected drugs.
A statement signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs of the Command, said Saani was arrested during a police operation at New York, near Airport Junction in Tema.
The statement said a team of police officers retrieved a bag containing 37 parcels of compressed substances suspected to be Indian hemp, as well as a crusher.
It said preliminary investigations suggested that Saani might have been involved in the distribution of suspected narcotic substances within the New York area and its environs.
According to the statement, intelligence gathered by the Police also indicated that the suspect allegedly feigned madness to conceal his suspected illicit activities.
The statement said Saani and any accomplices identified through ongoing investigations would soon be arraigned before court.
The Tema Regional Police Command cautioned the public against involvement in narcotic-related activities and urged persons with credible information on individuals engaged in the possession, distribution or trafficking of illicit drugs to report them to the nearest police station.
“The Command further encourages the public to continue cooperating with the Police to combat drug related offences and protect communities, particularly the youth,” the statement said.
