Nungua, Oct. 31, GNA — The Krowor Municipal Assembly has intensified mass health screening exercises for food vendors and other food handlers across the municipality to prevent the spread of communicable diseases and improve food safety.

The exercise, being conducted in phases across designated wards, seeks to ensure that people engaged in food-related businesses are medically fit and observe proper hygiene practices in their daily activities.

Mr Abukari Abdul-Wahab, Environmental Health Director for Krowor Municipal Assembly, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the screening exercise began last week, with officials moving through various communities to reach food vendors and other operators.

Mr Abdul-Wahab said the first phase covered Nungua Barrier, Royal Park, Old Bus Stop, SSNIT and 992, while the ongoing exercise was taking place at 18th Junction, Zongo, Adogono and Iron Bar, while other areas would be captured next week.

He stated that the assembly was also conducting assessments of restaurants, drinking spots, vegetable-selling points and other establishments where food was handled or sold, noting that maintaining proper sanitation at such premises was essential to protecting consumers and preventing the spread of diseases.

He called on food vendors and other food handlers to cooperate with the environmental health officers during the exercise and adhere to the hygiene requirements to safeguard public health, saying the programme was necessary to promote safe food practices and protect residents from preventable diseases.
