Odumase-Krobo(E/R), Oct. 27, GNA – Mr Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, Deputy Minister for the Interior and Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo, has cautioned the youth against firing guns loaded with live bullets during festivals and other traditional ceremonies.

He gave the caution at the Yokama mini durbar held at the Konor’s Palace at Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern as part of the Ngmayem Festival celebrations

Mr Terlabi stated that individuals intending to use firearms must seek guidance from the Police on the proper procedures for handling the weapons.

He warned that anyone who flouted the regulations governing the use of firearms would face the full rigours of the law.

“There are regulations governing the use of firearms. If you want to use a firearm, you must go to the Police for them to guide you through the process of handling the gun,” he said.

“If you disobey these rules and regulations and are found culpable, the Police will deal with you according to the full rigours of the law”.

He observed that although people who fired guns during cultural ceremonies might not intend to harm anyone, the use of live ammunition, could result in injuries or deaths through a slight error or accident.

The Minister, therefore, appealed to the youth to use paper-based or other non-lethal alternatives when firing muskets during festivals to prevent avoidable injuries and loss of life.

“If you disobey this order and end up using live bullets and the Police arrest you, you will not be spared,” he warned.
