Kadjebi District Assembly adopts electronic payment system

Kadjebi (O/R), Oct. 20, GNA – The Kadjebi District Assembly in the Oti Region will fully implement an electronic payment system from November 1, 2026, to curb revenue leakages and boost its Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to accelerate local infrastructure development.

The system, which allows payments through mobile money (MoMo) and direct deposits into the Assembly’s bank account, is expected to replace traditional cash collection methods, which can expose the Assembly to revenue losses and accounting irregularities.

Mr Innocent Komla Gavua, the Kadjebi District Coordinating Director (DCD), told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in an interview, that the electronic payment platform would provide a transparent and convenient means for traders, property owners and business operators to pay their levies.

He said the system would benefit businesses across major market centres, including Dodo-Amanfrom, Ahamansu, Poase-Cement, among others.

Mr Gavua said the initiative would help minimise revenue leakages, establish a comprehensive digital database of local taxpayers, provide verifiable electronic audit trails and maximise revenue collection.

He added that the system would also make payments more convenient for rural traders who relied on mobile financial services.

Mr Gavua urged residents, transport operators and other business stakeholders within the district to use the approved electronic payment channels and ensure that they obtained valid electronic receipts for all transactions.
