Ho (V/R), Oct. 22, GNA – Professor Ben Hoenyenuga, the Vice-Chancellor of the Ho Technical University (HTU), has commended Professor Christopher Mensah for his outstanding contributions to research, teaching and academic leadership.

He said Professor Mensah’s scholarly achievements had enhanced the university’s reputation nationally and internationally, while contributing to knowledge development in tourism, hospitality management and other related fields.

Prof Hoenyenuga made the remarks during the university’s second inaugural lecture in Ho, where Prof Mensah delivered a lecture on the topic: “Hidden Curriculum: Toxic Socialisation in Ghana’s Higher Education and Hospitality Sectors.”

The delivery of the inaugural by Prof Mensah indicates his rise to professorship status.

He said the inaugural lecture was an important academic tradition that provided newly promoted professors with an opportunity to present their research contributions and reflect on how their work could address societal challenges.

Prof Hoenyenuga said a three-day scholarly exhibition organised by the Nunya Library at the STAR-C had showcased Prof Mensah’s extensive academic work, including journal publications, conference papers, book chapters and research reports.

He noted that Prof Mensah had produced more than 65 peer-reviewed publications covering tourism development, hospitality management, human resource management, academic integrity, sustainable tourism, employee well-being and service quality.

According to him, Google Scholar records showed that Prof Mensah had 66 publications, 1,428 citations, an H-index of 22 and an i10-index of 39, with 80 per cent of his articles published in Scopus-indexed journals.

He added that Prof Mensah was ranked 476th among the top 1,000 scientists in Ghana in the AD Scientific Index 2026 and was among the top 10 researchers at HTU.

Prof Mensah joined the institution, then Ho Polytechnic, in April 2008 as an instructor and rose through the academic ranks to become a professor in March 2025.

He has served the university in various capacities, including examinations officer, head of department, dean of faculty and Pro-Vice-Chancellor, contributing to academic governance, staff development, quality assurance and institutional growth.

Prof Hoenyenuga said the inaugural lecture would also examine how socialisation, institutional practices and power relations could influence behaviour within Ghana’s higher education and hospitality sectors.

He expressed confidence that the lecture would stimulate critical discussions on the hidden aspects of educational and workplace cultures and their implications for academic integrity and professional conduct.

He urged the university community to uphold academic excellence, integrity, innovation and mentorship, stressing that professorial rank came with the responsibility to generate knowledge, guide younger academics and contribute positively to society.
