Gold Fields Ghana Limited provides transformers to improve power supply

Tarkwa (W/R), October 02, GNA – Gold Fields Ghana Limited (GFGL) through its Foundation has donated 90 electricity transformers worth GH¢1,098,583. 2 million to improve power supply for its host communities in the Western Region.  

The donation was also expected to address the growing electricity demands of households, businesses, and public facilities.  

Among the beneficiaries are Samahu, Abekoase, Benso, Awudua, and Tarkwa  Boso (TnA) Stadium in the Tarkwa Nsuaem and Prestea Huni-Valley municipalities, respectively.  

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Mr. Eliot Twum, the Gold Fields Ghana Senior Vice President and Managing Director, said the donation formed part of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation’s (GFGF’s) efforts to support essential community infrastructure and well-being of its host communities.  

At the TnA stadium, for instance, he stated that the 500 kVA transformer was intended to ensure a more reliable electricity supply for the stadium to support its operations and sporting activities.  

Mr. Twum added that the donation was in line with the Foundation’s broader community development portfolio, through which more than US$ 113. 20 million had been invested in education, health, water and sanitation, enterprise development, and infrastructure.  

The Senior Vice President said the GFGF was reaffirming its commitment to sustainable community development by working with relevant stakeholders to address infrastructure needs, promote local economic growth, and improve upon the well-being of people in its host communities.   

 Mr. Odame Thompson, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG Tarkwa District Manager, thanked the GFGF and explained that the new transformers would enhance electricity supply and reduce the load on the local power grid.  

He advised the beneficiary communities to avoid unauthorized connections, saying they could overload and damage the new transformers.  

Mr. Issah Salifu Taylor and Mr. Robert Wisdom Cudjoe, Members of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa Nsuaem and Prestea Huni-Valley constituencies, expressed appreciation to the GFGF and appealed to residents to help protect the transformers from theft and ensure long-term benefit for the communities.
