Ve Golokuati (V/R), Oct. 7, GNA – Personnel of the Ve Golokuati Ghana National Fire Service have intensified fire safety education and inspection in the district capital.
The exercise was led by the District Fire Officer, Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADO I) Emmanuel Delali Agbleze.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), ADO I Agbleze said the exercise was part of efforts to prevent fire outbreaks in the district.
He said the team visited churches, filling stations, schools and public places, to sensitise residents on fire prevention.
He said the education focused on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and electrical safety, bushfire prevention and proper use of fire extinguishers.
The team also demonstrated rescue techniques and educated the public on prompt reporting of emergencies.
ADO I Agbleze said improper handling of LPG and faulty electrical connections remained major causes of domestic fires.
He advised households to ensure proper wiring by qualified electricians and to handle gas cylinders with care.
He also cautioned farmers and hunters against setting bushfires, especially as the dry season approached.
He said bushfires destroyed property, farms and sometimes claimed lives, and must be prevented.
He urged school authorities to regularly check electrical systems and ensure fire extinguishers were available and functional.
He said filling stations were inspected to ensure compliance with fire safety standards.
ADO I Agbleze said the initiative formed part of the Ghana National Fire Service’s (GNFS) ongoing efforts to prevent fires and promote community safety.
He appealed to residents to cooperate with the Service and report fire outbreaks promptly for swift response.
He said public education and engagement would continue across the district to reduce fire incidents to the barest minimum.
