Takoradi, Oct. 14, GNA – The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), with support from the Takoradi Air Force Base Fire Department, has contained a commercial fire outbreak at a warehouse belonging to Somoco Company Limited, a tricycle assembling company in Takoradi.
Fire officials said the GNFS received a distress call at about 1037 hours on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, reporting a fire outbreak at the warehouse.
Upon arrival, firefighters found several tricycles engulfed in flames.
A team of six firefighters from the Sekondi-Takoradi Metro Fire Station, led by Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO) I Kenneth Agbavor, jointly battled the blaze and brought the fire under control at about 11:11 hours.
The incident resulted in the destruction of 10 tricycles.
However, more than 2,000 tricycles were salvaged, while an adjoining mall and other nearby structures were protected from the fire.
No casualties were recorded.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) I Cecil B. R. Addo, Western Regional Fire Commander, who was at the scene, said investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
He urged businesses and warehouse operators to prioritise fire safety by strengthening preventive measures, ensuring the availability of appropriate firefighting equipment, obtaining fire safety certification for their premises and maintaining safe storage practices.
ACFO Addo said adherence to fire safety protocols would help minimise fire risks and protect lives and property.
