Accompanied by Rev. Dr Stephen Yenusom Wengam, General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, the visit is to thank President Mahama for Government’s support towards the organisation of the Congress.

The visit comes ahead of the Church’s 10th Triennial World Assemblies of God Congress slated from October 14th to 16th, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

President Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama, who are both members of the Assemblies of God church, are expected to attend the Congress as Special Guests of Honour.

Originally, the Black Star Square was chosen as the venue of the three-day Congress but had to be changed to the Accra International Conference Centre due to unforeseen circumstances.

Being the first to be orgnaised on an African soil, the event, on the theme: “Commissioned: One Mandate, Every Nation”, will have evening gospel revival rallies at the Accra Sports Stadium.

President Mahama thanked the Assemblies of God for choosing Ghana for their 10th Triennial World Assemblies of God Congress.

He said the Congress Planning Committee had initially selected the Black Star Square in Accra for the event, however despite their best preparation, at the last minute, they could not use the Black Star Square, because the logistics and the facilities that were supposed to erect there did not come on time.

“Of course, as Commander-in-Chief, I can give orders. So, even though the International Conference Centre was closed for renovation, we had to open it temporarily to allow the Assemblies of God Church to use it.”

The President said the local Assemblies of God was doing well in Ghana and that it was one of the leading Pentecostal-Charismatic churches in the country with the Executive Presbytery playing leading roles among the leadership of the Pentecostal-Charismatic Churches in Ghana.

The President said since Rev Dr Wengam became the General Superintendent of the Church, the image of the Church had grown from strength to strength. hailing the numerical growth of the church in the country.

“We are happy at this time with the growth of the local church hosting the world. We believe it will be a successful Congress and that all those who have come will take back pleasant memories of our country.” President Mahama said.

On his part, Rev Yeo said the choice of Ghana was not a matter of coincidence but a divine order of God.

Rev Wengam expressed gratitude to President Mahama for being a proud member of the Church and for aiding and helping them access the Accra International Conference Centre for the Congress.

Rev Dr Wengam, who is also the Board Chairman of the Ghana Immigration Service, told the President that Ghana’s missions across the world were delighted to be offering diplomatic and protocol support to all international delegates attending the Accra Congress.
