Accra, Oct. 19, GNA – The Global Leadership, Innovation and Development Academy (GLIDA), an international professional and executive development institution, has been launched in Accra to provide industry-relevant education and training.

The Academy, which operates in 16 countries, including Ghana, seeks to bridge the gap between academic curricula and industry requirements by equipping individuals with skills and competencies relevant to the job market.

The Academy was officially launched at the premises of the High Commission of Malaysia in Ghana on Friday, bringing together government representatives, industry leaders, academics, diplomats and development partners.

Mr Riffath-Yakub Abubakar, President of GLIDA, said the institution aimed to equip individuals and institutions with the knowledge, skills and networks needed to create sustainable impact in the 21st-century knowledge economy.

He said its vision was to become a centre for lifelong learning that nurtured independent thinkers and developed leaders capable of transforming global business, leadership and sustainable development.

He added that the Academy was committed to championing excellence in transformation and innovation-centred training while preparing and resourcing individuals to thrive and achieve lifelong success.

Mr Abubakar said the traditional approaches to acquiring skills and competencies were changing, making stronger collaboration between educational institutions and industry increasingly necessary.

He said the future of education depended on aligning what was taught in classrooms with the practical skills and competencies required by industry.

Mr Syed Nauzer Idid bin Syed Yusoff Idid, Head of Mission at the High Commission of Malaysia to Ghana, said the establishment of GLIDA resonated with Malaysia’s national vision under the Malaysia MADANI policy framework.

He said the framework promoted a society founded on six fundamental values: sustainability, prosperity, innovation, respect, trust and compassion.

“It stresses that genuine economic advancement must be anchored in human dignity, good governance and ethical leadership. This occasion is a clear demonstration of South-South cooperation in action,” he said.

Mr Idid said Malaysia had consistently maintained that countries in the Global South possessed the capacity, intellectual depth and practical experience to drive their own development agendas.

He said through knowledge sharing, capacity building and peer-to-peer learning, countries could strengthen their capabilities and advance their development goals collectively.
